This was very interesting. I know the last time I went shopping, someone asked the clerk if they were charging for the plastic bags and the clerk said, "Not yet." This is a warning, I guess. I better stock up on some silk scarves!

Many people that shop at Safeway now bring in their own cloth bags and get a 3 cent refund for each bag they bring in to use instead of the plastic bags.

I have noticed more and mroe stores doing that. Down to Earth, Safeway, Times, etc. Makes it really nice.

I use my HUGE backpack but if I do get plastic bags I reuse them for other things...like the trash or carrying my lunch to work or other things like that.

I recently purchased some grocery bags to use when I go to the market. I was in a green kind of mood.

It took me a week to knit each one of my new grocery bags and all I really needed were some square scarves.

Nice! I can't believe they are charging 20 cents for bags now.
comment by carrryon on Aug 12, 2008 5:30 PM ()
really?? Wow they don't do that here in Hawai'i. They usually give you 5 cents credit if you have your own bag. I know they are working on banning styrofoam & plastic bags here thoguh.

glad you will find it useful. I love the over the shoulder one...that is perfect. I would probably use that if I didn't already have a HUGE backpack.

Thanks for sharing this great video.I have the cloth bags for shopping but always forget them.I don't think the cashiers here in Florida would have the patience for this method but it's great for lots of other uses.Laurie

like i alwasy say....it takes babysteps. I know not everyone is going to stop using plastic bags but if everyone took baby steps in the right direction we would eventually get to our goal and the earth would be a better place becuase of it.
