This is always part of my perspective on life, but it's good to really have someone else say that to you once a year.
Not only am I dust, but my money is dust, my possessions are dust, my efforts are dust, my clever ideas are dust, etc... You get the idea.

One of my present classes is Modern Church History. One of the interesting things about this class is observing the recycling of theological ideas, or theological emphasis over the years. Most of the stuff I wonder about, most of the corrective things I would like to preach/teach about, have all been said before. Not that this in any way discredits any of the revivals or movements of the past. There are a lot of good ideas, and a lot of devout and well-intentioned people we're learning about. My point is just that our reliance must remain on God, to do what God wants to do, because our vision is so limited and brief, and our efforts don't last.
But God's story, God's Word continues to speak, to challenge, to create.

Still, as someone preparing for ordained ministry, I'm glad we don't have to keep reinventing the wheel. (although we might like you all to think all our ideas are our own :-)
