  We Have Rain!

Yup! WE have had pretty heavy rain the last couple of hours here in Reno. It snowed a bit on us when we came through the Donner Pass on Sunday afternoon and it has been lightly raining ever since.

However, it has been a pretty steady downpour for the last couple of hours. The street gutters are running heavily, and our gravel waterways in the back yard are full and running.

The up side is that our front lawn is the prettiest it has been in the year we have owned this property. Good thing we just had it cut on Monday before the big rains came.

It is pretty hard to believe that Pea-vine actually has some green on it. We are so used to that dry brown color that the green really catches the eye.

The green won't be there for long. The hot sun of June will return it to that dry brown.

The earthquakes have dropped considerably in magnitude, but even so, folks are selling houses left and right, taking considerable losses. We still are having 7 to 8 a day, but would only know it if we has a seismometer. You can't really feel them at all.

The air up here is amazing. Every time we go down to Sacramento, I get a cough and it takes a couple of days here for it to go away. Pollution is really bad down in Sacramento. Here there is a clean smell to the air especially during and right after a rain.

Since we are at 5k feet here in Reno, the bushes and trees are just starting to bloom. Our roses are about a month behind those in Sacramento.

Hot coffee calls. Y'all take care hear?

I didn't lose my appetite from the highway. It was after touring the site of the Donner Party's bad winter.

Oops! Sorry! I jumped to an incorrect conclusion.

Yup! That is a pretty sad story.

We took our Mitsubishi SUV on part of the Donner party's travel through Dog Valley and understand completely how they got trapped by the weather and the geography.

Every time I had to drive over Donner Pass I lost my appetite. Hey, Fortson! My niece lives down in Genoa, just south of Carson City. Their backyard is the Sierra and their front yard is the Great Basin. Beautiful views. I played most of the golf courses around there and loved them! I really considered moving up there before I left Long Beach, CA.

Your experiences with the Donner Pass may be a tiny bit aged. While the old highway (40) was a bit twisty, highway 80 is four lane and has most of the tight curves removed. Would be surprised if current auto travel would be uncomfortable for you.

I can bet that your niece has a beautiful view from her home in Genoa. Of course, I guess it depends on your definition of beauty. If you had asked me about the view in Nevada several years ago, I would have asked, "What view?;" but today it has grown on me and the shadows reveal a much different scenario.
