The world is too much with us
"Great God! I'd rather be
A Pagen suckled in a creed outworn;"
Wordsworth captures the Romantics fascination with the pre-Christian civilizations. He finds a more pure celebration of man. As the world continued to change for the Romantics, they became to idealize cultures that most embodied the values that were seen as remedies to current social problems for the Romantics. The simplicity of the Pagen cultures were a perfect contrast to the scientific world that was gaining more illegitimate power in the 19th century, according to the Romantics.
