I have to say that the people here in this complex just blow my mind. About a month ago my hose sprayer disappeared. I was fairly certain that I had left it on the end of my hose, which was on a hose caddy. Since it is easier to water from the spigot directly across from my back yard, that's the one I use.

It sits right beside the sidewalk, but it never occurred to me that one of these sweet little senior citizens would bother it. Well, after searching for it for two weeks, I gave up, went to ACE Hardware and purchased another.

Then one day last week, the maintenance man was out walking while I was outside. He asked me if I had lost a hose sprayer. When I said that I had, he said someone found it on their porch, knew it wasn't his and turned it in to the office.

So, he brought it back up to me later that day. Then, yesterday morning, my sprinkler disappeared. This morning it appeared miraculously on my neighbor's porch.

Enough already!! All anyone has to do is ask, and I'd be more than happy to loan either to him. But, to take it without asking! That goes too far.traffic analysis

I’d be boobie-trapping me stuff…

A positive…the stuff is coming back…eventually.

Had to laugh at the "paint everything a hideous pink". It is so absurd that it just might work!

We had so much of this happen in Denver... I just never understood why someone wouldn't just ask to borrow it. Like you, it wouldn't have bothered me a bit - I am so thankful that I now have a farm in the country... No neighbors!

I don't understand it either. I have just started keeping everything under lock and key.

Haven't had anything "taken" in a long while. I live in a wonderful neighborhood and have even forgotten to lock my door. Maybe the one who borrows your things has a mental problem. That can happen in a community where everyone is "older". Paint your things an ugly pink and they might stay home.

It could be someone with a mental problem, but I am more inclined to think it is someone who thinks he can just use other people's properties to his liking so long as he eventually brings them back.

I don't live in a comples of any kind and I do live on a busy enough road, but most people leave other people's things alone, so you and I might think "no problem". That's why I can't understand how I "lost" a snowshovel this past winter, 2 red white and blue pinwheels I had on the porch for holiday decorations last 4th of July, and a potted tomato plant I had growing outside.

Well, yes, this is a most irritating situation. I know where I live there's a lot of movement (some people who own, rent their units out) so the renters aren't too responsible. We don't leave anything out. Also, in our complex, it's pretty much against the CCRs to leave things out. We do have spigots outside some of the units to get water for various things. People used to wash their cars here. But I think that's been so discouraged that they took the handles off the spigots. Or else, someone took the handles....

I don't envy you that situation. Where I now live, we often don't even close our doors, let alone lock them, when we go out. Once I returned to discover a neighbor had left a couple of dozen irises. Another time, it was a basket of peaches.

I've just about had it. I'm thinking of moving into the complex to the north of us. These people here have not impressed me in the least. Too bad. I'll be giving up my yard and flower beds in the other complex, but I think the neighbors keep more to themselves.

It might be easier to buy him one of his own and when you give it to him tell him to leave yours the hell alone!

I don't think it was the neighbor who took it. He is in a wheelchair. Whoever took it left it on his porch because the hose caddy is nearer his door than mine. I think the guilty party probably thought it was his.

wow, maybe you should say something to your neighbor

I don't think it was the neighbor. See my response to GA Peach above.

Irritating, certainly. Sad to say, maybe you'll have to stop leaving it attached to the hose. You may be dealing inconsideration, but you might also be dealing with an older person with developing cognitive issues. I am going through the latter with my stepmom, who has gone in just months from sharp as a tack to not remembering diddly and not thinking from A to B. Either way, remove the temptation.

Oh, you can rest assured that I have!!
