  Rainy Days

I hate days like today.  It is cold, it is wet, and it is dark.  My mood tends to fluctuate with the weather and I am reminded of what Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said in one of his immortal poems about rainy days.

The Rainy Day

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the moldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
And the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the moldering Past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast
And the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart! and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

So that is where the line, "Into each life some rain must fall" comes from! Great post.

The rainy and dreary days help us to appreciate the sunny ones more, at least that is true for me.

For me, as well...

You are welcome. The article bothered me. I wanted to share it. I put it on Blogster because I have a larger readership throughout the US there than here on Greasy. I get some new readers here but not nearly the amount I have on Blogster, and this was a story that needed to get out there.

I do like that poem. I am not into poems, but that has a great message.
I myself like cold and rain, I guess that makes me kind of wierd.
Thought I better make the rounds, I have been away too long.
See ya around.

Yes, Bob, it does have a great message. I kind of like rainy, warm days, but I hate the ones like we had today.

I hope your day isn't as dark and dreary as it was here today.

If you get lonely, all you really need is that rainy day love.
Rainy day people all know there's no sorrow they can't rise above....
Rainy day people don't hide love inside,
They just pass it on.

The picture is a bit freaky, but I thought it tied in well with the poem's message.

I liked that a lot.
We had a beautiful fall weather today.
It is going to be short lived.Cooler weather for the weekend.
Some rain is forecast.

Thanks, Fredo. Happy you liked the poem. It has always been a favorite of mine. I guess fall is officially here with the cold and the rain.

It is a great poem. Of course its most famous line is..."into each life some rain must fall."I'm hoping the sun will find me tomorrow as well.
