  Breezing Along with the Breeze

I just gotta tell you, not bragging or anything, I not only completed the 5k run this morning (a goal in itself!), I won my age division and broke my personal best time by a minute (25' 10"). Yep, I'm feeling pretty perky.

It was hot and very humid out there, even at 8AM. No wind, however--just a light breeze. I thought I started out too fast, but seemed to get into a smooth gait with fairly long strides. Before long, I was passing the quick starters and just kept on truckin'.

My sister rooted me through the finish. We celebrated by going to the local fire department's pancake and sausage breakfast. I only had 6 and 2 respectively (roll eyes).

Now that the race is over, it would be easy to fall back into my old pattern of eating more and running less, but I'm going to fight it. The benefits and rewards of keeping in shape are too great. Of course, it means I have less time to spend on greasy, so forgive me for not getting around to reading all my friends' posts more regularly. I appreciate your patience.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Barack and Joe--GO!!

Wow... I'm proud of you!!!! I have a friend who just ran in the Crater Lake relay and here I am, barely able to walk. This is not good. Actually, I am walking better these days and most of the pain is gone. Now, I just have to work at getting back in shape.

Again, Randall, I'm proud of you! Annie :o)

Bad backs, dog bites, foot problems, being overweight, etc. can all be reasons for not running. Notice I didn't say "excuses"? Thanks, though.

This is the third time that I am here- my third visit, but I never left a comment before. I think this post makes me feel fat and lazy. Never mind, at least I can admire your resolve.

It takes resolve, but I enjoy eating too much to quit. There's the balance. Don't feel bad--you can paint, I can't, and wish I could.

I know that feeling. Since my surgeries, I am sooooo out of shape.

Congrats! I so want to run... I just can't make myself. Maybe cookie will make me start to run? Who knows!

Sorry for the late response, Beth. Just found your note. It's a lot easier to run, now that I have more time. My daughter (age 30) forced herself to get motivated--now loves running and feels so much better. By the way, your dog (avatar) looks just like the one that attacked me! I won't hold it against you.

Wow Randy, that is fabulous news to be proud of for sure. Good for you. Keep up the positive work. You're an inspiration.

A belated thanks Terri. It's in my genes I guess.

That IS an accomplishment! I could never do it. It's worth keeping up as you intend to do! Nothing is worth more than good health!!

You have every right to be proud!!

I just hope I don't sound like a bragger--don't mean to. Just proud. Thanks.

Good for you!!! Congrats! Running 5k is no small feat! I took a running clinic earlier this summer, and for our last session we ran for 30 minutes, which measured out to about 5k, I believe. I thought I was gonna die by the end... but so proud of myself that I didn't.

Thanks. It's nice to be appreciated. I do it for my health, both physical and mental. Besides, I'm a nut!

Good for you!!!!!!!! I wish that I could run, but my ankles are so darn weak! I walk, however. You will probably live to be 110! We will have to take good care of ourselves so that we can be around to aggravate you!

No aggrevation--I'm the phlegmatic one! Good to hear from you. I'll be checking for a post as soon as I finish answering comments.
