  Corn Mazes

It's that time of year in the Midwest. Farmers with time on their hands, money to burn, or just plain crazy, are making grand designs in their corn fields for "tourists" to walk through.
Now, why would anybody in their right mind want to pay to walk in circles through a field of corn? ($8 a head I read)
These are mazes, the designs of which can only be seen from a plane.
You have no other view than corn as you wander hopelessly in search of the exit. I fail to see the thrill in that. I suppose it's the challenge, but I can think of far better challenges than paying to walk through a hot dusty corn field.

Wow! Lots of comments on this one... I've always wondered what it would be like to be lost in one of these mazes. Can you pick some corn while you're wandering through? Fresh corn!

"Field" corn is not edible, so you wouldn't want to try it. Now sweet corn!

Well, Randy, I'd pay $8 just for the sheer fun of it... as long as there was someone to come get me if I got lost.

Perhaps because I live in a sea of corn, the thought doesn't appeal to me. I've never talked to anyone that's actually done it.

Corn mazes... sounds like a claustrophobic adventure (or nightmare).

My thoughts exactly. Thanks for your reply.

What a waste of money! Eight dollars would buy a lot of ice cream to eat while I work my crosswords.

Not good for you--the ice cream, not the crosswords.

All this time I thought it was extra-terrestials that did that...

There is a guy around here that does one every year...it's huge...last year I think it was a map of the USA...

I noticed corn mazes were featured in a Sally Forth cartoon.

I just love the crazy, fun things Americans can come up with. Talk about enterprise! Great post.

Nice play on words, albeit a little "corny". Yes, I have.

It's the challenge of the puzzle. Take refreshments!

I prefer the ones on my lap.

If I want to get lost I can just walk around town for a bit.

More things to see and much cheaper. Beware of dogs!

Something new to me and very enterprising of the farmers.

You've never heard of such a thing? They're all over, although not as many this year with corn prices so high.

It must be fall if it's corn maze time!! I don't think there is enough Prozac to get me to attempt to make it through one, but the designs are cool from the air.

You'd think I would go for something like this, since I like to walk and enjoy puzzles. Nope.

Hey, thanks for dropping in, Fredo. I've never done a corn maze. Perhaps I'd like it. I'm not thinking positive.
