  Fay

Today streams of cars started coming up from Florida to get out of the way of hurricane/tropical storm Fay. A lot of Floridians used to go to Mobile to take refuge when hurricanes approached, but now it seems they want to go farther north, so Mississippi Highways 98 and 57 were busy with long trails of cars, many headed for Hattiesburg.

A weatherman on the radio said it was despicable the way the news media is hyping this storm and scaring people and putting reporters out ready to broadcast in their rain gear. All I know I do not trust meterologist anymore. They don't know what a hurricane will do until it gets right offshore. They make guesses about the track, just like anybody on the street does.

But if it does veer up toward Georgia, like I sincerely hope it does, they will get the benefit of the rain which they need, since the southeast has been in drought conditions for the past few years. I'm fighting the urge to go to Wallymart to buy tons of canned goods and such. Bet the place is crowded. Just mention hurricane here and everybody gets antsy.  susil.

It Fay heads your way,you will get plenty of rain. Here in South Florida ,all we got was rain and more rain. There were a few wind gusts but not strong enough to take a tree down.I do agree about the media and all the hype they make out of things.Laurie

Hi Laurie; We got a little sprinkle today, no big rains etc.
Glad you are okay!

I wish we could get some of that rain too, it's been so dry around here. I think reporters just like to cause a stir so they have something to film

I think given the way the weather has been so violent and unpredictable in years past, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Hi she; the weather sure has been unpredictable this year.
Hope you and your family are well where you are..

Predicting a storm track accurately far enough in advance to allow enough time for folks to evacuate is like voodoo. It's only when the storm get close that can they make adequate predictions, but by then it's too late for calm retreat. Not being hardened by hurricane miss-predictions, I'd be on the road, too.

Hi marta; I like that voodoo science, LOL! After a lot of
thoose false "crying wolf" warnings come, then people get
complacent--that when you get a smack on the head. It alwsys
happens.

At this moment, Fay is blowing and hissing around my house, but it's no worse than a regular storm. However, we drew all the shutters late yesterday and it's dungeon-like. The TV people are all about ratings and if they scare the s... out of you, that's okay. Fay made landfall at Everglades City, south, south, south of here. They have lost power in Lehigh Acres, an hour from here. We'uns is doing good and I don't have to water anything for a while. Glug.

Hi teal, glad you're okay (and hope your neck is better too!)
Maybe everybody will at least get some much needed rain from
Fay.
