  Indigestion

Last night, for the first time in many months, it got chilly enough to sleep under a sheet!  Down to 61 degrees, how bodaciously wonderful. At 3am I had to turn the fan off, and it was very quiet, because even the night crickets outside were silent.  A shaft of moonlight came through the curtains and I slept under its light dreamless and peaceful.

This morning, although I shouldn't--budget and all you know, I went to Trudie's for breakfast. I had pancakes and bacon and coffee. A guy was there having breakfast too, and as in all small towns, you talk. Turns out he was a retired enlisted man, in the service for 38 years. He's gung ho for McCain, and the war(s) in the Middle East and says that we haven't had war here because WE TOOK IT TO THEM.

If we hadn't, says he, they'd be over here. He thinks GW Bush is a peachy guy and wished he could serve 4 more years (I was getting indigestion by this time.) He believes in drilling for oil where ever it may be, wildlife refuge or not, in cutting down every tree in sight if the government says it wants too and so forth.

In our talk, he mentioned he'd never read any book from cover to cover. I said how sorry I was about that, and I am. If you don't read, you can't think for yourself. The empty spaces between your ears are filled up with what other people want to instill in there.

Then I said he was naive, and took the rest of my pancakes to go. A die hard conservative and a liberal never the twain shall meet--not a meeting of the mind, anyway.  Well, time for a dose of Pepto Bismol. When will I ever learn to shut up??                      susil

Just think, all his life maybe he's wondered how he will ever work that into the conversation: "I've never read a book cover to cover..." or maybe he works it into every conversation.

I'm not saying he seemed proud of it, but neither did he seem
ashamed or abashed about it either. I think about all the great
books he's missed out on, and it makes me sad.

He ruined a great breakfast.

I should just learn to eat and shut up and not converse between
bites!

I know how you feel. I just hate these kinds of humans.

My ex was a career Army man--I already knew that whatever your
superiors tell you to think and believe, that's what you're expected
to go along with, so this man was going along with what he was
indoctrinated with.

Keep talking, Sue!! Tell it just as you see it.

No, I must learn to tone it down and keep opinions to
myself--that's what southern women are expected to do.

I'm glad you said it. I suppose his response was nil or negative. Can't help people like that.

Well, you know the adage don't discuss sex, politics or religion--
But what else is there? LOL

Speaking of indigestion, while I was driving a semi I
ate rolaids like they were going out of style, 1 to 3 packs
a day. After retirement, I may have taken 2 packs in 16 years.
So that tells me it was stress that caused it for me.

Blood pressure is under control. Have to take
atenolol for it. Been working fine for a long
time. Thanks for asking.

Larry, stress can kill you, so I'm glad you are still kickin.'
How's your blood pressure now?

BTW, I am loving this weather.

Never shut up! I admire you for speaking your mind.

Karen I don't have any friends because I "speak up" so I'm
gonna try hard to stay mute--well less opinionated anyway.
