  A Letter

Yesterday I got a letter from Oxford Mississippi, from a publication I used to get articles published in. I haven't submitted anything in a long time. The owner was asking for me to send an article.

He addressed the envelope to me: Sue -------, writer. That made me smile. Someone thinks of me as a writer.  That was a nice feeling at a time when I need it. Susil

Writing for money shouldn't be counted on, but if you're not depending on it, then a "let's see what happens" submission could bring in something here and there. In other words, submissions without expectations. And yet I don't do it.

The Denver Post Obituaries generally list the deceased's occupation as a sub-headline for everyone (Sally Jones - Homemaker; Jenna Smith - Bookkeeper), and I spend time trying to figure out what I would want mine to be. They never go to the length of Laura Troutbend - Goofball.

Hi strider, tx for stopping by. Hope you are well.

Absolutely you are a writer! And a good one! I hope you will write an article for him — perhaps about the loss of the prized trees and habitat around you. Now wouldn't that be a fitting tribute to your much loved pines, so tragically snapped from their roots?
Speak for the trees and the birds, Sue. You can be their voice!

Hi marta; well I wrote a leter to the editor of the Hattiesburg
American about the clearcutting of the woods--emailed it two
days ago, don't know if they'll publish it or not.

But you are a writer! I hope you keep on writing, Sue. I would miss your posts very, very much.

Karen, if you were here I'd hug your neck--you're just a
sweetie pie.

My thought too. Will you send an article? Don't leave us hanging.
Why not write one about the tree cutters, the greed behind it,
etc.

Hi dear teal; I'm gonna wait until the denouement of the
tree standoff--the logger will be back Monday, so don't
know the end of it now. Afterwards may submit an article.
To be frank, there's no money in writing, and blogging
has fulfilled the compulsion to write.

Hi Hawaii; Don't know yet;thanks for asking. Hope all is
well for you.

Awesome, are you sending anything?
comment by ducky on July 18, 2008 10:08 AM ()
Hi ducky; you know blogging fills the need to write, so I rarely
submit articles anymore, although I did have an article published
Thursday in the county newspaper.
