  The Screaming Woman

Yesterday driving to the store I was listening to Mississippi Public Broadcasting as always, when normal programming was interrupted.  Gov. Barbour was going to give a speech at the Neshoba County Fair, a tradition of politicians for decades.

Barbour didn't say two words before a woman started screaming the name of her sister, the woman who was murdered by her ex husband, (the man who was pardoned by Barbour amid much uproar.) This convicted murdered had been denied parole by the parole board SIX times in the past, but the gov. went over everyone's head to free this man.

So I'm listening astonished as every time the Gov. started to say something, he was drowned out by the screams of the murdered woman's sister. She screamed and screamed the name of her sister, and you could tell the Gov. was flustered. Finally he said "It's a free country and free speech is part of that."

I'm surprised people around her didn't join in and scream with her. If I'd been there, I would have. What Gov. Barbour did was inexcusable. I hear legislation is under way right now to prevent any future governor from playing judge and jury.    Susil

That pardoned murderer MUST have had something over the governor. That's the only thing I can possibly think of as to why a governor would pardon someone like that. It just doesn't make sense.

The convict had been a trusty at the governor's mansion and
maybe letting him loose was a "favor" Barbour did for him.

I agrre with you that Barbour should be held totally responsible,
and I think that The murderer will commit more crimes.
I was certain qfter his first term he would not be re-elected.
Cain't understand people.

larry, I'm with you--I couldn't believe he was voted in office
twice--I didn't vote for him either time. (I'm a Democrat anyway.)

Wish we had a system to remove incompetents from office.
Why does Mississippi vote for this man? Did you hear
the latest? Obama is too fit physically to be president.
People won't vote for him because "he isn't like us"
meaning he doesn't look like he drinks a six-pack
for breakfast.

teal, it seems if there was a field of 100 people running
for governor, Mississippians would unerringly pick the worst
of the bunch.
Hadn't heard that about Obama--that's an incredibly stoopid
thing to say about anybody. Have Americans gone nuts??

Wow that is just awful. What was his reasoning for realeasing this man??

he was a trusty at the governor's mansion, is the only
"reason" I can think of.

Wow, unreal! Well that's one way to really get your point across! Serves him right.

I was surprised at how long she was able to keep it up
An ordinary person's voice would have given out fast.

Hurrah for the screamer. I am glad she got just a little bit of revenge.

me too.

Applause for that poor woman protest. I would have joined in the screaming, too. I certainly hope the members of your state legislature rise up in anger to prevent future governors from acting so reprehensibly.

marta, I don't know if all governors have the power to
randomly pardon prisoners of their own volition, but for
sure there oughta be a law against it.

Something needs to be done for sure. If this guy was denied 6 times they must have seen something they didn't like...for him to just up and do this...is just nuts. IF this guy does something while he's out...it's going to be Barbour's fault and the blood will be on his hands.

Absolutely--Barbour should be held personally responsible
for any crimes this man commits since he let him loose.
