  Serenade

Last night my resident mockingbird sang off and on all night. He was perched in an azalea bush by my bedroom window, and I can tell you, a mockingbird has a very loud voice. It chirped and warbled and I could recognize some of the other bird's songs he had woven into his repertoire, but not all.

My cousin Andy also has a resident mockingbird that perches in the bushes near his house. Mockingbirds especially like to sing when the moon is full, and during the last full moon, Andy griped that its loud singing disrupted his sleep. He opened the window and yelled at it. The bird would fly away for a while, then return singing again.

I was dismayed to hear that he finally threw some firecrackers in the bushes that seemed to deter it. He doesn't get it; that a full moon and a mockingbird is a magical experience. I like to hear them sing, no matter how loud, and feel privileged that it feels safe enough in my azaleas to sing for me.

I like to listen to all the birds sing. So far there isn't
one that sings regular here.

Almost every year I get a mockingbird who takes up residence
around the house. I love listening to all birds, but Katrina really
decimated them.

Mr. T reports he has started hearing them again in Las Vegas. We never knew about the full moon link, but will watch for that; you are correct, it's a magic combination. I think it is so interesting when they are close enough to you that you can hear the little chirps and trills of the various birds.

It sounds like a birdie chorus when a mockingbird sings
all those different songs. What's not to like?

clever fellows!

I love 'em!

It is either the dogs or the crows singing all night around here. A mockingbird's song would be so much more enjoyable!

I couldn't agree more,

A full moon party sounds fun.

A new acquaintance is having a "full moon" party next Sunday and Ed and I are invited. She is having her sister perform some kind of New Age rite. Ed is rolling his eyes. I said I was going to love it. He said, I know, I know. I will post something about it afterwards. No mockingbirds, though. I don't think I know what they look like.

teal, a full moon party sounds like something my new age neighbor
likes to do--you've gotta write about this happening!
Mockingbirds have these satiny gray feathers with white markings--
they're the state bird of Mississippi and about six other states.

Sounds like a fun party - a new experience anyway.
