  Sleep Deprived

Couldn't sleep at all Sunday night, so read the paper, did two crossword puzzles, watched tv, made a sandwich, and put away some laundered and folded clothes. By daybreak, got sleepy and had just lain down when Christy phoned. She lives in another county.

Someone had vandalized her mailbox, torn off the flag, stolen a necklace from a QVC box, and scattered mail on the ground. She is my friend, so I listened as she talked for 45 minutes about what to do about the situation besides calling the post office and the police. Afterward I was drifting off to sleep when I heard knocking at the back door.

Got up and opened the door to find a stray dog vigorously scratching fleas--every time he moved his leg to scratch, he thumped the door, and it sounded like someone knocking. I had shoo-ed this dog away twice already, but he didn't take the hint. I called my cousin Bubba to come get the dog. I gave Bubba some gas money and he took the dog.

Fleas had jumped onto my legs as soon as I opened the door, so got the Raid and sprayed all around the back door to kill the boogers. Lay down again. Loud sounds of heavy equipment roared through the house. The power company had sent a treeline company to clear the power lines on our road, and they were cutting trees on both sides and in front of my property.

Traffic and racket and buzzing sawing sounds--couldn't sleep. Got up and drove to the end of the driveway to get the paper. A weird guy who looked like a cast member of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie drove slowly by on a 4 wheeler as I sat there. Scruffy, unkempt, like he hadn't had a bath in years. He puttered by right in front of my car.

I leaned out and asked Can I help you? He had a bad speech impediment, and had snaggly teeth protruding from red swollen gums. "I I I'm  look look looking for for for some kkkkkeys," he said. Jesus! That guy has never owned anything that needed a key. By this time I'm so sleep deprived things are seeming surreal. But that guy was spooky.

Went in and lay down again. Phone rang..a medical supply company was calling to tell me new walking sticks I'd ordered were ready for pick up. Just dozed off, phone rang again. Woman who comes to help me on Wednesdays said someone new was coming on Wed., she was off. Dozed off again, doorbell rang.

I staggered to the door and an employee of the treeline company asked if they could park their diesel supply tank on my property overnight--it's just a tank on a trailor--they said. I said okay. 20 min. later here comes a five ton truck with the trailer, barreling right over my water lines..they wanted to leave the truck and trailer. I said no, so they backed out, running over my water lines--over and over.

By dark, I could barely function, when Christy phoned again. I went to sleep as we talked, which isn't easy because you can hold the phone a foot away and hear her voice. But finally dropped in bed and slept like the dead.

Well big surprise--this morning I found the treeline company HAD come up in my driveway sometime after I said NO and left that diesel tank on my property. I didn't know it till they came for it this morning. The driver said Well if we did break any of your water lines, we'll fix it. Dammit! That's not the point.
I hope today is a lot less uneventful than yesterday.   Susil

If I sit still too long after I eat, I will fall asleep.
This will happen if I am doing a Crossword, or watching
TV, or reading. Sorry about all those interruptions.
What did your friend do with the dog, just let him go
someplace else? I am worried about the dog.

I know that feeling. Most of the time it's dead-on lonely around here, and then when things start happening it's all at once a three-ring circus. Those tree projects are stressful on a person because you're worried about will they break a power line or damage your property or cut down more trees than they need to.

Hi Laura; they finished up today and moved on down the road
so it's quiet again, and I slept well last night--and most
of today too. (After working nights so many years, and sleeping
in the daytime, my sleep patterns are messed up anyway.)
Thanks for listening. Hope you are well; best wishes--sue

Hi Hawaii; I admit sleep is my favorite past time!
Take care of yourself dear.

I'm glad you got some zzzzzzs even thought the world seemed to be conspiring against the idea. Because of fibromyalgia, I don't sleep very well either, so I can identify. I survive on naps. Maybe I should get myself a supply of crossword puzzles!

Thanks for your kind support and interest in fibromyalgia. It is a chronically painful condition which is complicated and difficult to treat. WebMD has a good overview. Here is the link:

Hi marta; what are your symptoms with fibromyalgia?
Can any treatment be done for it? Best wishes for sleep and
comfort.

No over-the-counter sleep medicine really works with fibro, but research indicates that low-dose amitriptyline can be helpful with fibro sleep problems. I'll be asking my doc next time I see him. I wish us both good luck and a good night's sleep!

Hi marta; I have found that doing crosswords stimulates the
mind, so doing them wasn't a good idea when I couldn't sleep
already. Do you take anything to help you sleep? I'm thinking
about getting some Tylenol PM. (Sorry about your fibromyalgia.)

Ok, now I'm exhausted. You take it easy today.

Hi she; well it's almost 6pm now, and thankfully today has been
much more peaceable. Tx from susil

Put a sign out at the end of your driveway:

DANGER!
RATTLESNAKE HABITAT!

or

DANGER!
LAND MINES.

or

PLAGUE!

Hey dude; Ha! I really like the rattlesnake one!
However, I'm thinking about putting a No Tresspassing sign on a
tree out front--then anybody comes on my property can be arrested
if they ignore the sign.

I hear you about the sleep. I am having trouble sleeping because of being in pain. Hopefully the pain meds. and muscle relaxers will knock in and I can get some sleep here soon. Hope you can too.
