  Worry Wart

I'm getting worried. My best friend Dottie left for Michigan 16 days ago and I haven't heard from her in nine days. She wan't feeling well when she left, and last time I heard from her, she was still ailing. I know one of the reasons she went back to visit her hometown was to visit her mother's grave one last time. My normally optimistic friend has become melancholy lately. Doctors want to run tests on her, and she's thinking the worst.

Maybe she's kicking up her heels and having a good time. I hope so. But I am a worrier by nature, and I'm becoming concerned. She has a beloved cat she left at home with promises from her son's girlfriend to look after her pet, which is iffy. She has an elderly father who depends on her. I can't imagine her staying away so long. Why doesn't she answer her cell phone?  Oh well, when she gets back she'll  be annoyed I was so worried.   susil

If she was annoyed, she is being selfish. You ought to slap her silly (or verbal version of same). You should also inform her that having friends is way better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Is this that road trip we all discussed some time back - something about sleeping in the back of a truck? I remember thinking the road trip in general sounded like fun, but maybe not the sleeping arrangements.

Dottie is back, broke--she had a new compact car, and couldn't
sleep in it (after dismissing the idea of sleeping in the truck.)
Motel rooms siphoned her money off quicker than any other expense.
I'd like to travel some, too, but lodging is the fly in the ointment.
PS She said her AARP card didn't help at all with that.

I understand your concern. I'm lighting a prayer candle for your friend and sending positive wishes for her speedy and safe return.

Dearest marta; all your help got her back home safe and sound--
but me, her son and father and sister are all PO'd with her for
not letting us know she was okay. You're a dear!

She came home feeling better, thanks.

P.S. She will not be annoyed.

Actually she was!

Call her dad. Also her son. And if the pet care is not taking place, perhaps you know someone who will temporarily adopt.

Hi teal; her son was working on an offshore oil rig and her
father is in his eighties--I was afraid I'd give him a heart attack
if I called all worried, because I knew he'd be getting concerned too.

I am sorry to hear about your friend. It does seem strange--visiting her mom's grave with such urgency and not answering her cell phone. Perhaps she is out of a service area or didn't remember her charger. I do hope that all is better than what you fear.

Hi angie; You are so right on--and I'm gonna write a blog now
about her cell phone problems.
