  Do I Need a Lawyer?

Something really strange happened yesterday morning, I was having my slice of Pepperidge Farm Light Oatmeal bread toasted and as I was chewing, I found something hard inside of it. It was 1/2 of a sewing needle -- something you find rarely in my house because I don't sew unless I absolutely have to. Never cared for it. It was the top end of the needle and it was in the middle of my piece of toast. Freaked out totally, I immediately washed my mouth out with peroxide and water and put the needle on a plate by the toast. I took picutres of it as well to show to anyone who would need it as evidence. I wrote my cousin, the lawyer and told him. He wrote me back and told me I need a personal injury liability lawye. I then told my policeman son who called his friend at the D.A.'s office who said for me to take pictures and today call the Better Business Bureau, the FDA and Pepperidge Farm eventually. Anyway, this is really weird. I was freaked out all day long -- I mean, wonder if I had swallowed it? And the other thing that bugs me is, where's the other half of the needle??????????

I don't think you have any legal recourse...hard to prove...but pretty gross

Sorry...best of luck!

Evidently you are wrong. My cousin is a lawyer and he has guided me on what exactly to do in this case. There definitely is a problem here and Pepperidge Farm is going to have to deal with it. It's already been reported to the FDA and they have started action as well. I have a photo, dated and taken at the time it was found. Won't be too hard to prove. I don't sew. You don't find needles around my house.

You don't need a lawyer. You need another favorite brand of bread.

You might be right

You'll get a lifetime supply of Pepperidge Farm--and with bread prices today that could make you a millionaire!!!
And all I'm worried about is an instrument being left in my body when I have surgery!!!

Gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!We are all the time hearing about things being found in food that are bought at fast food places! Pepperidge is such a reputable brand. I would follow the advice of the professionals, for sure!

And I've been a loyal customer of theirs for years. This is pretty wild.

that is scary Deb! keep us posted on this. I don't know if you could bite through a needle, so I hope you didn't swallow the other half.

I never even thought about that, but that is scary

Many years ago, there were numerous cases like that that actually lead to death, and the safety packaging we have today. I had this experience at that time, except it was a thumb tack in a twinkie-like cupcake. I had taken it off the shelf to eat with coffee as usual, so there's no telling if the tack came in that way or if somebody in the store did it after I opened the package (We would all leave things like this in our space as we went around working in other areas). Anyway, long story short, I reported it to the company that distributes the product and they sent a rep in to talk with me. Ready for this? They gave me a bag of freebies I passed up many good opportunities to sue in my day... just didn't want to deal with the BS for a few bucks... (prolly could have made thousands on the prairie-dog incident tho) Can't hurt to at least consult a lawyer!

Wowie...a real life take on the old joke: What's worse than finding a worm in your apple? Ans: half a worm.
