I love it that you focus on many places at once - that's a bit like the prince who ran madly out of the castle, jumped madly onto his horse and rode madly off in all directions.
I too loved Heinlein -- especially S in a SL. But Orlando? too gothically complex... for me. I reckon Virginnia is a woman's author -- they're usually pretty good at unravelling complexities.
