  Canadians Do Their Country Proud

One of the ways you measure the value and esteem in which people hold their system of government is their participation in it's responsibilities.
Canada held their National Election today.
their voter turnout?

Voter turnout:

13,457,902 of

23,401,064 registered electors

(57.5%)

Fifty-Seven percent of their registered voters have turned out to vote today. This does not include voters who registered at the polls on election day, so there may be a larger final number.

I hope to see the good old USA meet or exceed that on election day in November.

Comments:

If 57.5% is considered good turnout then I guess the US turnout is miserable. Maybe they should pass a law to make the election null and void whenever there is a miserable turnout.

Gosh, it's funny because J n' I were commenting how disappointed we were with the poor voter turn out this year. Now I'm curious about how low it is in the US. I always figure, if you don't vote, you can't complain.

I believe we will have a huge turnout in November--perhaps one of the largest we have ever had.

It would warm my heart to see more Americans participation in our Democratic Republic Process

THat is really good! We tend to have the lowest turnout rate of any democracy in the world ... usually around 30-35%. I have a feeling that it will be a bit higher than that this time because so many people are interested in the Presidental election after the sad results of the Shrub Administration.

That would delight me. Although I admit that my 2 friends who are receiving stem-cell treatment will be considered disposable under McCain's Medical Plans. It Terrifies Me, as my sister with multiple myeloma may need the same thing soon.

The truth is, I have lost too many friends in these last twenty-five years, that I can't bear to lose another. I know death comes for everybody, but couldn't the grim reaper play in someone else's phone book for a while?

Obama's Health Care plans are much more inclusive.

I wish I had paid attention to the final number and percentage when I was watching election coverage last night...I certainly hope all of you exceed that number in November, too.

It rarely happens that we get as big as a 50% turnout in the USA. Some people are indifferent, some are apathetic, many have given up all hope in the system. I vote because it is a right and a responsibility. It's also a privilege that women have not always had. Use it or lose it, is my suspicion.
