Floods Everywhere from Here to Wisconsin!

This is downtown, in the town just north of mine. My nephew brought it in on his digital camera yesterday, with my groceries.

Farther North, at Wisconsin Dells, a dam burst under the weight of the water, and the whole Lake at the Dells is washed away Dry! No more Water Skiing Shows this year, maybe ever! More unemployment. Tourism is their ONLY business up there. Tommy Bartlett and his Water Shows, the resorts; if the lake is gone, it will be very hard for those folks. The dells are still there, of course. They are huge rock formations. People will rebuild, if they can afford it. Most insurance companies here don't offer flood insurance.

There have been rain storms for two weeks or more, the water is overflowing the rivers and creeks. The people who built a Mall where there used to be a floodplain understand now, why we call it "Flood Plain Mall." They are sandbagging at their back doors. All the kids come by to report on where the water is now. I don't have to deal with it. This building is built, glory be to God, on high, dry land.

There are ducks swimming in my backyard where it goes downhill! The ants, in a frantic effort not to drown are coming flowing in every time I open the patio door, so I don't open it, anymore.

The water is overflowing the Fox river and the corn fields are swamps. The water is overflowing the Des Plaines river, and Highway 21 is under water because it was built too close to the river. But politicians never listen, and they are reaping what they sowed. Unfortunately, so are all the people who still live along that stretch of land. they are taking people out in rowboats around here. The churches are giving them shelter, the Red Cross is actually handing out coffee and doughnuts to the people who are sandbagging by the rivers.

Prepare for really high corn prices this year, or maybe even no corn. The corn is supposed to be almost knee high, and it's barely shoe height. (That makes me think of Bildad the Shuhite, who came out to chastise Job.) Although there is nothing funny about our neighbors, the farmers, losing their crops.

This year there won't be any Titus Farm Stand, because Tony's cousins wanted the money offered by the Land Developers, and forced a sale. It's a shame that they won't be able to build on the farm until late summer, given this mud! More people out of work.
Have a good day, folks.

Where I live, over 16,000 acres of Illinois corn fields are under water, with the expected total next week to total over 60,000 acres. So much for Ethanol made from corn making gas cheaper this year. This is "Pray For a Farmer Week", where I live. You pray too. Prepared foods are gonna skyrocket, because of the high fructose corn syrup. It might make us turn to healthier food. If we can afford it.

That Lake Delton that emptied and disappeared in the Dells was bad...a couple from West Allis, WI took their life savings and built a house on that lake...it was swept away down stream and even their lot is under water now, they had no flood insurance...what a tragedy. We have a lot of roads closed and the rivers haven't crested yet in many parts. We've never seen flooding like this. It's something that happens every 100 years, and speaking of 100, we just got through a horrible winter that we got over 100 inches of snow...strange weather, very strange. A thunder storm rolled through tonight....fortunately for us, we live on a hill although I watched two rivers flow by the house. When will it end...

There is major flooding here. It rained so hard last Saturday..so scary. It continued to rain and rain all this week. Crazy weather. It's amazing that more people weren't killed in the storms and flash flooding.
It was amazing to see the pictures of all the wide spread damage across the state.
Have a good weekend, Stephy
