Last night at my public Library, there was a one woman show about Willa Cather, by Cather Scholar, Betty Jean Steinshouer.
It is the first thing that has taken my mind off my grief since the chaos started on March 27th. It was literally like being in the room with Cather, asking her questions about My Antonia, the One Book that our community has been reading this winter. This woman works year round appearing as many different women of letters, including Sarah Orne Jewett, Gertrude Stein, and my personal favorite, Laura Ingalls Wilder. If you are involved with a library, or Soroptimists, or any group which might like to book one of her shows, go check out her website: http://home.mindspring.com/~bjsteinshouer
Soon to follow is a concert of Prairie Songs by Lee Murdock, whose name you have seen here before. There are discussion groups morning, afternoon, and evening at the library. There are teen programs as well, including a showing of the movie, "My Antonia." The whole thing is delightful!
It drew my attention away from my sorrow for a bit, and engaged my brain. If you aren't in a reading group, I highly recommend it.
