Last Update on Tuesday

Its 10:30 pm and we are back at the transplant living center. Bobbi finally made it up to her room sometime after 8:00pm. She looks good but is tired and sore. She will hopefully be venturing out of bed tomorrow and should be able to chat. We were allowed to see Zeev for a brief minute around 9:30 pm. He was sleepy and in pain but looked good all things considered. He should be moved out of the PACU sometime tonight. Thanks to everyone for your calls and good wishes, How lucky Bobbi and Ze ...

Zeev in Recovery

It's 7:00 pm and Zeev is in the recovery room. I spoke w/ the nurse and she said he will be there at least four hours before moving to a room. He was just medicated for pain but she said I could check in there in a few hours. Unfortunately, no more details than that have been given. Bobbi is still waiting for her room.....
Zeev Out of Surgery

It is 6:00pm and Zeev is finally out of surgery. The doctor was in a hurry to get to the next transplant as he is several hours late but told Michael that things went okay. I missed him as I was in the PACU with Bobbi who is awake and in pain. Still awaiting transfer to a room. Stay tuned.. Orlee

Friday Afternoon Report

Its 5:30pm on Friday and its been a busy day. Bobbi is doing well, going slow, but already needing to be reminded to pace herself. Discharge to the transplant living center is anticipated tomorrow. Zeev was out of bed a bit more, sat up in a chair and worked with the physical therapist. We all attended an informative class on post-transplant care and then the nurse coordinator met w/ Zeev one on one to review all the medication he will take at home. He still tires very quickly. We snuck in ...

Its 5:30 on Wednesday. We just got the report that the tests that were done this afternoon looked good and everything is flowing as it should. What a relief! We will see the doctor again tomorrow. Keep sending the good thoughts this way... Orlee

Thursday Afternoon Report

Its almost 5:00pm and things continue to look up for Bobbi and Zeev. Zeev's color is returning and the doctor came by with a positive report. He even said possible discharge for him on Saturday, but we will see. He has been out of bed twice or so for a very short walk. Still working on getting an appetite. Bobbi has already gotten a new kidney to replace the one she gave Zeev; it's silver and came in a Tiffany's Box with love from Phyllis and Gabe. That sure put a smile on her face. She al ...

Soulmates

My name is Roberta Silberman and I am going to be donating my kidney to my husband Zeev on June 6 in Mt Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. Although we hear about this more and more each day, I being the one going through it feel the need to tell my story. Twenty Eight years ago I was living in Rockville Centre in a very tumultuous marriage just barely existing. I was in a very depressed state of mind and did not have great expectations for my future. On a fluke I went to a Fortune Teller and had ...

Bobbi in Recovery Room

It is 3:30pm and I just snuck into the PACU/Recovery Room to check on Bobbi. She is sedated now w/ pain medication but the nurse said she was somewhat awake earlier and doing okay. She is sleeping peacefully with a sweet smile on her face and not a hair out of place. They should be moving her into a room in the next hour or so. We are still waiting to hear about Zeev, who is still in surgery... Orlee

Afternoon Report

It's 3:15 pm. The doctor has some concern re: blood flow to Zeev's new kidney so he is awaiting a follow up test to check. However, he says there is no issue w/ rejection and clinically things look okay. We will hopefully hear more in a few hours. Bobbi is up and about, but slowed by discomfort. But at least they got to see each other briefly. Stay tuned... Orlee

Back Home in Huntington

Its 3:15 pm on Sunday. We were unable to update the blog since Saturday since we could not get to a computer (the one in the hospital was blocked off). But we are back online in Huntington. Zeev was released this afternoon and could not get out of the hospital fast enough. Bobbi is back in diamonds, a sure sign that she is feeling better, although a little activity still causes a lot of fatigue. Zeev's labs looked better today. He is very tired and sore but looks better each day. He will n ...

Back in Charge Again

It's been a long haul but at last we are back in the saddle again!! I just want to tell you all how much I appreciate all your phone calls and messages. Today was the first time I was able to read this blog and it almost made me cry (and you all know that I don't cry too often). Of course if I had to figure out how to use the "blog" myself I'd be sh-t out of luck so I really have to thank Alicia for setting it up and Michael and Orlee for all the follow up to the blog that came afterwards. ...

Bobbi is Out of Surgery

It is 1:30 pm. Bobbi is out of surgery (started at 8:40am) and is on her way to the recovery room. We have to wait to see her, but according to her surgeon, things went well. We will try to get into the PACU to see for ourselves in the next few hours. The doctor says she will probably be groggy the rest of the day. Zeev went into surgery exactly 2 hours later, and his surgery is still in progress. The doctor anticipates another two hours for him to be finished. More info as we get it... Or ...

And Away We Go ... ... .

It is Monday afternoon and we are off to the city to settle into the TLC (Transplant Living Center). Another excellent idea from Bobbi as a last minute change has us reporting to the hospital at 5:30 AM instead of the original 10:30AM. Which other than the early wake-up call is a good thing as Roberta and Zeev are NPO after midnight which means NO FOOD or WATER. No bagels and lox, black and white cookies, pizza or diet coke until the deed is done. Thanks to June and Lynda, we shall be arri ...

Thursday Morning Report

Its 9:30 am on Thursday. Spoke w/ Zeev's RN who is very nice. She is the same one he had yesterday. She said he did okay overnight, is tolerating the new medications he has to take and even had some breakfast. As yesterday, he is still in quite a bit of pain when he tries to move. Bobbi had a better night, is again up and slowly about. It looks like she may go home tomorrow but we will see. She also continues to have some pain but is feeling well enought to eat some contraband. A New York ...

Morning News

Its 9:30 am on Wednesday. Its raining in the city. I spoke w/ Zeev's nurse and he is stable this morning. She was not forthcoming with details over the phone but said there were no problems overnight and he could try to get up when he felt like it but that right now he was still in quite a bit of pain. Bobbi's RN said to call back in half an hour because she was busy but other than pain Bobbi should be doing well. We hope to see them when visiting hours start after 11:00 and will report ag ...

Friday Morning Report

It's 8:45 am on Friday. Both Bobbi and Zeev had uneventful nights. Bobbi saw her doctor already today and is now staying until Saturday, just to get a little stronger and feel a little better before getting discharged. Zeev is awake but having significant pain still. Today there is a class on the medication he will need to take, etc. after going home that we will attend and hopefully get some good information.
