  Colorado Front Range

Where the Great Plains meet the Colorado Rocky Mountains is called the Front Range. This is Longs Peak on the right (in shadow) and Mount Meeker on the left. I grew up north of where this picture was taken but had a similar view across farm fields to the beautiful soaring peaks that turned pink when the sun rose in the morning and were silhouetted by sunsets at the end of the day.

Now we live in what is called The Foothills (as opposed to The High Mountains). The other areas of the state are The Eastern Plains and Grand Mesa (on the western border). These distinctions matter when looking at weather forecasts.

Sometimes we forget to notice something we see all the time, but I never got tired of that view.

In some ways I think it was better to stand back and see a lot of the mountains instead of living amongst them and see only those right close around.

Love the picture. One day... I hope to get back to my roots near Simla. I see that picture and I miss my Dad. He loved Colorado!

I can't remember if we can see the mountains from Simla, but as far east as it is, probably not, but as you drive west, all of a sudden there they are, and to us, coming home from a long road trip, the front range is always a welcome sight.

I divide places to get passionate about living into two groups: seashore and mountains, but inland rivers also hold a special magic for me.

Looks like my backyard growing up. (I lived in WYO) makes me a little homesick

I'll never forget when my sister called me up to tell me she was moving to Wyoming. "Yeee-Haww! I'm going to have a cowboy on my license plate!"

That superb photo certainly reflects classic Americana...

Yes, the same horrible thing is happening all around St. George, Utah. When you reach certain points along the road, you get a glimpse of all the identical roof lines spread out over what used to be bare land. Then, when you get closer, it becomes clear all the little boxes are the same, and very close together as well.

Eventually it will all be built up into housing developments made of little boxes built out of ticky tacky and they will all be just the same.

I showed the picture to my husband and he wanted to know how long it would take me to pack--gosh, it is so very lovely.

I think everywhere has its redeeming qualities, but I feel fortunate to get to live here.
