Not Dead After All These Years

July 31 was the 32nd anniversary of the Big Thompson flood between Estes Park and Loveland, Colorado in 1976. 144 people were identified as dead including six who were missing/presumed dead. Earlier this month one of those missing people turned up alive in Oklahoma, and he hadn't realized he was on the list of missing until this year.

His name is Darrell Johnson and he was in Estes Park around the time of the flood but when home a day earlier than planned. The place where he was staying in Estes Park reported him as missing because he never got in touch with them to say he had made it back home safely. On the news he said that his family didn't like where they were staying so they left a day early without telling anyone.

Here is the link to the interview:
AOL Video - Flood Victim

What I want to know is how he was the only one of his family listed as missing when he wasn't the only one who left early. I guess it doesn't matter. Somewhere I have a book with the list of those killed and missing.

How very strange. I could see if he had amnesia or something, but this seems like he's just not very much "with it", if you know what I mean.

It's hard to imagine that they didn't see the national news that talked about this flood where they had just stayed, but I guess it could happen.

Maybe the registration was in his name and the names of his family members were not listed. He doesn't sound too bright.

We can be happy he survived and evidently his family did too. Funny that fate has so many twists and turns.

It's funny to me that he never took an interest in the flood all these years.
