  Inky Cap Mushroom

This is an Inky Cap mushroom. They turn black and when finally gone the ground where they were is just inky black from the spores. I've never seen them up here before, must be one of the years that conditions were favorable.

Despite being a child of the 60s, 'shrooms still cause me unease.

Moles, voles and armidillos are on my list. The armidillos leave the ground looking like it has been rototilled. Rex catches armidillos but doesn't know what to do with them.

Mushrooms in the market work for me. These look interesting though.

Never seen these before. We just get the uninteresting white ones here when it rains a lot. Are these edible?

My botanist friend said they won't hurt you but they aren't very good to eat. It looked kind of tasty before it turned black and then I lost interest.

We have them here all over the place.
Lot of rainy weather causes this?
They are icky if you stepped on them.
Now the moles making their appearance.

I'll take your word for the icky factor - not going to go stomp on them just to see for myself. We've got tons 'o moles digging up one of our yards. It seems like it's getting spongy where you walk because it's all tunnels underneath. In the winter we get voles that tunnel between the standing snow and the grass, leaving shallow tunnels through the sod come spring.
