This morning I was sitting around in a daze trying to get worked up enough to start cleaning the bathroom when the doorbell rang. I thought maybe it was the visitors staying next door with a problem only I could solve, but lo and behold, there was Bob just in from Independence, Missouri with a loaf of homemade bread and five new hummingbird feeders. My first thought was 'there goes that last piece of apple pie.'
Bob is a school principal there in Independence, and he comes up here to fish. His wife Roxie makes the bread and always wants to send a gift with him, so this year it was those feeders. She'd commented on them from a photo I'd emailed to her about the wildlife around here, and I'd responded that we needed to buy more of them because the bears have broken most of our old ones.
Don't you just love friends who pay attention to what you say and follow through with the perfect gift?
