From today's Las Vegas Review-Journal:

"Road Grooved to Play Song Being Paved Over

Residents of northern Los Angeles County are not grooving to this music.

Lancaster, Calif., city officials said last week that they're paving over a quarter-mile strip of asphalt grooved to play the William Tell Overture when auto tires speed over it.

The road was completed this month as part of an ad campaign for Honda. It is engineered to play the overture -- also known as the theme to "The Lone Ranger" -- at perfect pitch for motorists driving Honda Civics at 55 mph."

Hey, great. They should add Ravel's Bolero for rainy days, Wagner's conclusion to Tristan the "Liebestode" for mountain roads, and how about Chopin nocturnes for idyllic country lanes?

Very interesting. When Ted and I run out of things to talk about on a road trip, we play oldie goldies like the Platters and Connie Francis dvds.
It makes us feel young again.
