  The Scenic Route

Jeri and Ted left today headed back to Oklahoma. I forgot to take a picture of them while they were here, but can see them in my mind's eye.

They decided to take the scenic route back, which around here there are scenic routes and then there are scenic routes, and they took the latter, which Ted thought was a 50 mile detour, but it's also a couple miles increase in altitude with lots of winding roads and sheer drops without guard rails. (Trail Ridge road if you're familiar with this area.)

I'm sure he thought it would only add an hour or two to their trip, and I heard him trying to get Mr. Troutbend to give a time estimate but all he got was mumbles in response because Mr. T figures Ted has a map and if a man decides to take a certain route nobody should give him any new ideas as he is setting off. Meanwhile I'm on Jeri's side of the car telling her goodbye, and I hear Ted say something like "It'll only take an extra hour or so?" asking for confirmation, and I'm muttering to Jeri: "Or four hours."

Now I'm worried that they'll never want to come back here because they won't be able to get over that scenic trip. Don't worry, if you were thinking of visiting there are plenty of scenic but less strenuous routes to get here, unlike Glendale , Utah which is another hair-raiser over a huge mountain with big drop offs flashing past in your peripheral vision.

Well, anyway, off they went. Car packed full with auction and flea market treasures.

We Really enjoyed the scenic route, it was very, very beautiful. We went around Denver and came home by way of the panhandle.

I guess that's a good distinction...b/t scenic as opposed to scenic(!).

Is it really about a four hour diversion? Oh my, that may not sit well.

That's my guess - 4 hours at least. We were telling them ways to avoid the rush hour in Denver, and I think they would have ended up hitting it because of this detour. We'll find out when they get home and she emails me.
