  Visit from the Horribles

Our friends who drive up from Loveland every so often bring their corgis, whom they refer to as 'the horribles.'

The dogs like it because they can run around the yard without supervision and they think this is their house and make themselves at home. This means they are running in and out if they see a ground squirrel out back and bark if anyone nears the house then they jump up on the sofa and snuggle with us, then back to the window to look out.

Buddy the Cat gracefully retires to the bedroom when they come - he learned who was in charge when the Horribles visit.

The funniest thing is when they leave and one of them bites the door frame on the way out because he is so excited to get to ride in the car.

I love corgis! I think they are so cute and have such unique little personalities. The Horribles, huh? Yeah, that could fit.

I loved your post, cute story. I hope the cat has assumed it's place as the pet in charge.

Never heard of such a breed. Guess I live a sheltered life.

Don't laugh you bounder! I have recently become the owner of a "chihuahua", and in your sheltered life you have never come across a species like this, No discernible reason for them to survive in the evolutionary climb to the top. They serve no discernable purpose on the earth, they are afraid of everything (the remote! for crying out loud, the stupid dog is afraid of the tv remote, of course the fact that I accidently dropped the remote on its head twice might actually be an indication of intelligence), without humans, chihuahua's would have disappeared milleniums ago. They are our pampered mice, the cute, sometimes shreaky, occasionally trainable to do some minor tricks. I personally want to open a restaurant called "
The Exploding Chihuahua", and have a rather porky chihuahua called Les Nessmen as a door man.

We have friends that own the "Nasties" which considering the dogs are Rottweillers could be construed as a racial slur, but in this case, it is somehow appropriate. They are of the "Our Dogs would never do that - and of course the dogs promptly do what ever it was that they supposedly didn't" which encompasses everything from pissing on the rugs to lunging at people when they are off lead (the dogs I mean). I always wondered what purpose a corgi served, other than as a door stop and occasionally a foot warmer! I suppose once they pass on, you could take them to a taxidermist and they could transform them into bolster pillows (probably not good to have shedding bolster pillows is it??)

They are herding dogs for cows, and these two will herd humans if given the chance, plus catch mice and rats. They are also very smart and fun to have around, being smaller dogs (30 pounds or so) they are easy to deal with.

I bit the doorframe when I went to pick up my wife for our first date way back when... I guess you could say I was as excited as a corgi...

The owners squirt some canned cheese in his mouth before leaving the house to distract him, in case you ever feel that coming on.

They don't look so horrible. Buddy shouldn't have to hide. It's his house.

He picks his battles - two against one and they want him to play with them. There is another dog who visits sometimes who ignores Buddy, so Bud spends a lot of time staring at her trying to figure out what's going on.

Cute story! So the Horribles, which seem to be rather fearless, jump up and snuggle with you when strangers approach? How cute is that? And Buddy retreats to the bathroom?

We were having a thunder storm and that was part of it, but the part was them just wanting to sit next to us while we talked.
