Why I Love the National Geographic

My May issue of National Geographic arrived today. I love the National Geographic! When I was young we lived without cable TV way out in the country side. It was before VCRs, at least in our home. Entertainment was scarce so you really just had to make due.

I use to practice being a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader. I only had seen these ladies once on the Love Boat and I thought I had found my calling.

I use to stare at the wall in my bedroom for hours and imagine little people were going to magically come out of it. Then I would think about would I try to catch them or would I just let them be. I never had a definite answer to that.

I use to climb up the haystacks and me and Moses Malone would pretend we were on Solid Gold. Our signature song was "Islands in The Stream" by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.

I use to write letters to God and then leave them in the wild apple trees that grew on the end of the property. I would ask God to please send me a Unicorn and I would also make other request like being a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader.

I use to look threw my parents never ending collection of National Geographic. It helped fuel my imagination and also there were a lot of strange people from God knows where and sometimes they were NAKED!

So now I am going to go and lie on the couch and browse my new issue for those people from faraway. With any luck some may just be naked.

I love NG! My sister n' I used to practice dance routines to Down in the Boondocks in our basement... I still know all the words off my heart.

Isn't it crazy what sticks to your brain. I can sing Just a Gigolo by David Lee Roth by heart.

I've been a NG subscriber for 42 years--and have kept them all! I just gave my 25 yr. old son a gift subscription. Hope he enjoys them as much as I have. Take me away!

NG makes a great gift. The man got me my subscription for Christmas, he was sick of me pilfering NG from waiting rooms. I am still tempted... old habits die hard.

I know I love it. After I have the baby me and Moses are going to have to go karaoke. I am sure we still have got it.

I always liked "Islands in the Stream" too...

Oh yes it is a great song! As a child I thought Dolly Parton was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.

What a bright and interesting child you were! NG is wonderful, but was only a tiny spark to kindle your beautiful imagination. That my dear girl is a magnificent trait of your own.

The most creative people are those raised with exraordinary imagination...I loved solitude growing up and enjoyed those types of childhood games, and I truly believe the first time I saw naked people were in one of those National Geographics...I need to go buy one, I haven't seen people like that in quite a while

Well the May issue has no nudies, damn... It is all about China The Red Dragon. Very interesting! I think one of the best things about the mag is that is offers a face to a Nation. The people are so easily forgotten.

...and now you don't get to do them things anymore...

I always enjoy the subtlety of the upright penis gourds.
